Welcome to the Sant Jan Batisto goat farm
The love of pastoralism

Our journey
Arrived in 2016 at the Plan, at the foot of the magnificent medieval village of Châteaudouble (Var), our herd of goats is made up of organic Provençal goats , rustic and perfectly adapted to the climatic conditions and the vegetation of the Haut Var.
Plants (laurel, thyme, holm oak, white oak, maple, cistus, rosemary, sarsaparilla, ivy ...) and hill mushrooms, but also the grass of our meadows in organic farming constitute their daily diet.
This very diverse food ensures their good health. The meat of our young goats is transformed into merguez sausages flavored with Provence herbs.
Besides the well-being of our goats, pastoralism also helps to protect our hills from the risk of fire and to find an environment rich in biodiversity.

True eagle's nest, from where it dominates the gorges of the Nartuby, Châteaudouble has retained its authentic medieval aspect.
Châteaudouble takes its name from the presence of two castles in the Middle Ages, each of them located on a bank of the Nartuby. Only the remains of the Tower remain today, a square keep, dating from the 12th century, which overlooks the village.
Châteaudouble, a high place, was long considered impregnable. Thus in 890, inhabitants of the region, fleeing the Saracens, came to take refuge there. The village initially built on the top of the rock will descend its settlement on the current site in the 15th century.
Perched on its narrow plateau, Châteaudouble is a village which invites to the nonchalant discovery of its alleys, weaving its way between the houses and climbing to the ruins of the castle, on the plateau of Ste Anne.
